Goodbye APT 10, Hello new furniture!

Our motto for the week is "out with the old, in with the new" and it couldn’t be more fitting! On Tuesday we finished deep-cleaning our apartment...for the very last time. We have had a great year in APT 10... This was the first place we lived together so it had special meaning to both of us. Kurt even hit his knee to propose in the living room there... so its safe to say that it was a bittersweet feeling to shut the door on APT 10. (I may have teared up a little thinking about the proposal...but hey, it only happens once!)

On the same day we said goodbye to APT 10 our new furniture was delivered to our house! It is nice to have our patio furniture out of the living room and back where it belongs. Were already loving the new addition and I’m happy to report that our paint colors nicely compliment the new set. I was a little worried buying burgundy furniture but its perfect! Pictures to come...

The Move & BCB

We are officially moved into the house!  After a long week of packing, loading, unloading and unpacking EVERY night we managed to clear our apartment of all the little stuff by the time the weekend rolled around!  We spend Saturday hauling up all the BIG stuff with the assistance of our amazingly helpful families! :)  Between both our Dads' trucks we moved the beds, couches, table, chairs, dressers and entertainment center over to the house in a few quick trips.  They men even got our new washer and dryer hooked up, fished our cable through the wall and mounted the TV.  I'll have to admit I wasn't much help with all the heavy lifting but I had good company because Joe & Chana came to visit, too!  Marley kept us girls entertained for the afternoon and it was fun to have so much family at our house for the day. =)

Although we had plenty to do at home, we took a road trip to Des Moines on Sunday and went to the Big Country Bash!  We got a great deal on tickets a couple months back so decided to make it work and put off the unpacking for the day.  The weather was great - but the all the rain we've had made for an insanely muddy concert!!!  Check this out....

We're still cleaning off our feet/boots.... but it was fun to hang out with some friends, especially my cousin Alex!

Wow, We're Homeowners!

Here's a little sneak peak at all our fun projects in the new house!  We've already managed to make some big changes (with the help of the Kelly family) by re-painting the entire inside over the weekend! Whew... what a difference that made!  Unfortunately I wasn't very good about taking before and after pictures so you'll just have to imagine it as a beach-themed bungalow before our improvements. :)

Our new little home! We love it already.
Kurt & I spent all night (until 1am!!) priming over the dark
bluish-grey living room and dining room walls.

My Mom & Dad did us a HUGE favor and painted while we went to a friend's wedding on Saturday, too!  They must REALLY love us, huh??
Check out that awesome red kitchen! =)

Putting on some finishing touches on Sunday!
Matt even helped by assembling our table & chairs and cleaning off the pool table in the basement.  What a great brother!

That's all the time we have for tonight!  We've slowly moving all of our things from the apartment to the new house this week....time to take another load over....  Wish us luck!

Let the packing begin...

Tomorrow is the big day!  That probably means that we should be packing up our apartment huh??  We've been struggling for the entire week on where to actually START packing.  This is first time in 5 years that either one of us has had the luxury of moving things over a week-long period, it sure is different than packing in our college days when we were required to load up everything we owned in one fellow swoop.  This is definitely an improvement and the move should go nice and easy!

We have big plans for the weekend, too!  Tomorrow night we'll be priming a few rooms in the house, then my parents will be helping us paint ALL the rooms (minus the basement) on Saturday & Sunday.  Did we mention that the entire house was decorated in a beach theme??....Yeah, in Iowa.  So clearly there is a need for a fresh coat of decent colored paint throughout the house, ha ha!  We're looking forward to making it our own, and we're VERY grateful for the wonderful help that we have. =)

But painting isn't the only excitement we have this weekend -- we're also looking forward to celebrating Ginny & Sergio's marriage on Saturday.   Ginny was a college roommate of mine and I can't wait to see her walk down the aisle!  Plus, as an added bonus we get a couple extra visitors because Maggie (another dear old roomie of mine) and her boyfriend will be staying with us after the reception.  Fun Fun and more Fun!   On another note, we'd like to extend a big CONGRATULATIONS to Mallory & Tad.... unfortunately we're not able to attend 2 weddings in one night, but we wish you guys all the happiness in the world!

PS.  Next time we blog, we'll be homeowners!  Waahooooo

One week until closing!

Buying A Home

We're counting down the days until we officially buy our first home!  =)

Is it Friday yet??

This week seems to be dragging -- cant we just skip to Friday already?!  I think that is the general feeling every time we have to head back to work after a weekend that flew by TOO fast.  :)

My Waterloo Days turned out to be fun... unless you were on the committee, HA!  So while Kurt got to take in all the free entertainment, partake in the free beverages that I earned by being a committee member, and hang out with friends -- I rushed around downtown Waterloo on a golf cart, wearing a ridiculous hat (required by all committee members), and attempting to complete my assigned duties with the vast amount of incorrect information (or general lack of information) that I was given.  Luckily I was not alone during this madness and my friend, Ashley & I got many good laughs out of the experience!

Ashley & I at MWD, right before the cops shut down our beer stand on the bridge (*sigh*).

After a night like that I was ready for some "girl time" -- and since Kurt had to deliver a finished upholstery job to WL it was just the night for one!  I spent Saturday night at my good friend, Ginny's, Bachelorette Party and we had a great time selling suckers, completing a scavenger hunt and indulging in shots and girl talk! :)  Now we're looking forward to Ginny & Sergio's wedding next weekend!

Ginny & I before the Bachelorette Party, with the sucker bouquet I made her!
We sold over 80 of them that night!!

The work week snuck up on us and we've been keeping busy researching all the big purchases we plan (well... we hope to) make once we get into our house next week.  If you have a decent washer/dryer or living room furniture for sale, hit us up!   Only NINE days until we close!

Kurt's Creation & Festival Fun

From now on, this week is officially crazy.  I joined the My Waterloo Days volunteer committee this year and the festival starts today, woohoo!!  For those of you that aren't from around here, My Waterloo Days is "a community-wide, annual festival organized by volunteers to showcase and celebrate Waterloo's cultural and recreational opportunities."  It's packed full of free concerts, carnivals, big crowds and of course...lots of food and beer! For the next couple days you can find me in my office - or there.

Since MWD is filling up my free time, I asked Kurt to make dinner last night. I came home from my meeting to find that he creatively combined our limited amount of groceries (I have clue where all our food goes!) to make a very unique, kind of scary, but surprisingly tasty dish.  If you'd like to try it at home here is what you need for Kurt's Creation:
2 packages Ramen Noodles
1/2 jar of your favorite salsa
1/2 pound beef (browned & drained)

...I warned you it was "creative".  =D
